Eddie joins the team from sunny Queensland, Australia, where he lives with his wife Emma, and 3 small children – Georgina, Alexander and Archie. He has a background in endurance sport going back over 20 years. He has competed in multiple Ironman, and half Ironman triathlons, 24h mountain bike races, trail and road running events, adventure races both long and short, and of course – Coast to Coast. Eddie first became involved with Team CP as an athlete competing in Coast and since then has crossed the ditch on multiple occasions to assist with support crew duties and help countless athletes have their ‘best day ever!’
Working at Sport Australia for 20 years exposed Eddie to all aspects of the sporting landscape. From Elite, high performance Olympic teams focussed on bringing home Gold medals and World Championships, through to junior sport participation: getting more children, more active, more often. As a father of 3 Eddie sees the value and benefits of developing a life-long love of movement and is passionate about helping people to experience the joy that comes from adventuring in nature.
After learning to white water kayak specifically for the Coast to Coast, Eddie went on to become a qualified kayak coach and has helped multiple Aussies prepare for their trip down the Waimak River. They don’t have rivers like that in Aus..!
Whether you are brand new to endurance sport, or looking to shave seconds off your PB, Eddie is a patient (it comes with answering at least 850 questions a day from a 3yr old) and supportive coach with a focus on fun, consistency and continual improvement.
Despite being told he would never run again following back surgery, Eddie set about to prove his surgeon wrong. After months of rehab and pilates, walking became hiking. Hiking soon became running. Running became cycling and finally paddling was added to the mix. Just over 12 months after lying on the operating table, Eddie lined up on the waters edge at Kumara Beach with 800 other athletes ready to cross the southern Island of NZ – proving that patience and hard work pays off – and ultimately beginning his AWESOME journey with Team CP that has led him here today.
As Dory says ‘Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming…’
- It also works well with paddling/running/riding….:-)
